Built by Someone Who's Worn the Badge.
BadgePrep was created by John Villotti — a former U.S. Secret Service Agent, law enforcement officer, and Fortune 500 security executive.
Meet the Founder
John Villotti has spent his career in the places where preparation isn't optional — it's the difference between success and failure, and sometimes between life and death.
U.S. Secret Service
John served as a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service, working at the federal law enforcement level and gaining firsthand experience with the hiring, training, and operational demands of government service.
Law Enforcement
Before the Secret Service, John served as a law enforcement officer — working patrol, responding to critical incidents, and serving as a Field Training Officer (FTO). He knows firsthand what it takes to earn a badge, survive the academy, and build a career in public safety.
Fortune 500 Security Executive
After federal service, John transitioned to the private sector as a Head of Security for a Fortune 500 company — leading enterprise security programs, managing global risk, and advising C-suite leadership on threat management and business continuity.
The Problem He Saw
Throughout his career — from his own hiring process to mentoring recruits and watching colleagues navigate federal applications — John saw the same problem over and over: talented, motivated people failing not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked preparation.
The tools available were built for college students, not public safety recruits. Generic flashcard apps. Study guides that didn't match the actual exam. No way to track applications across multiple agencies. No interview prep designed for oral boards. No understanding of how federal resumes actually work.
So he built BadgePrep.
Why BadgePrep Was Built
The public safety hiring process is one of the most demanding in the country. It's not one test — it's a gauntlet. Written exams, physical fitness tests, oral boards, polygraphs, psychological evaluations, background investigations, medical clearances, and academy training. And if you're applying to federal agencies, add structured interviews, USAJobs resumes, and a timeline that can stretch over a year.
Most people pursuing careers in public safety are doing this for the first time. They don't have a Secret Service agent in their family to walk them through it. They don't have a mentor who's navigated federal hiring. They're Googling “what to expect at a polygraph” at midnight and getting Reddit threads from 2019.
BadgePrep exists to be the mentor these candidates don't have.
Every feature is built on real experience. Every tool reflects the reality of how these processes actually work — not how they look on paper. Every piece of content is informed by someone who's been through it at the highest level.
This isn't a study app. It's a career platform for people who want to serve.
Our Mission
BadgePrep's mission is simple: give every public safety candidate the preparation they deserve — regardless of where they live, who they know, or what agency they're pursuing.
We believe the path from civilian to badge should be defined by your commitment and ability — not by whether you had access to the right information at the right time.
We're building the platform that levels the playing field.
